Securing a Safe Manufacturing Environment While Enhancing Productivity

OS3101 Safety Laser Scanner

SEPTEMBER 18, 2007 (ASIA PACIFIC) - Omron works toward securing a safe manufacturing environment for all workers while enhancing productivity. With the latest addition of Safety Laser Scanner conforming to Category 3 Safety Circuit without having to use the Controller, the presence of operators can now be detected in today’s increasingly complex manufacturing sites.

Omron OS3101 Safety Scanner is designed for use in dynamic and irregular hazardous environments. It allows setting of a protective area up to 4 m with an additional of 15 m warning zone. Infringing the protective zone can be viewed at a glance from an array of 16 LED intrusion indicators and a LED display.

The Safety Scanner is so user-friendly that parameters for highly complex detection areas can be easily set by a personal computer. Any highly complicated protective and warning zones can be programmed to match the shape of the work area, allowing the presence of machines and other equipment. In locations subject to special conditions, such as spattering in welding stations, response time can be set to reduce the chances of spattering material being mistakenly detected and stopping the machine, thus helping to improve productivity.

In addition to protecting operators at conveyor lines and at robot stations, the OS3101 can be mounted onto automated guided vehicles (AGVs) and other mobile objects in which the monitoring area must be frequently switched, during obstacle detection.
