International Standards
In some cases, measures must be taken to minimize confusion between the
EMO and EMS in terms of the related standards.

The SEMI-S2 standard requires that either a safety guard be installed to
prevent erroneous emergency off or that the emergency stop switch be
installed in a location where erroneous operation will not occur, while
the IEC 60204-1 standard (JIS B 9960-1) does not require the installation
of a safety guard.
